Boat Burning-Little Drummer Boy

A couple of weeks ago I saw Andras Fekete and Boat Burning at the Kennedy Center. Andras was one of those guys I always spoke to whenever I saw him at a show. He's smart, interesting, incredibly well informed. Just a pleasure to be around. So I made a point of chatting after the performance.

 

I told him how much I enjoyed his arrangement of "Little Drummer Boy" and asked if I could play it on my show. He requested a few days to clean up the recording and said he'd send me a copy for airplay. Friday morning before 6 A.M. I received a digital copy which I played later in the day on my show. I thanked him, never got a response, didn't think much of it. You know, it's the holidays.

 

I was crushed to find out tonight he'd passed away on Friday. What a decent, humble human being this guy was. It's not even like he was someone I knew well, just a hip dude I chatted with when circumstances allowed, but his warmth and compassion were unmistakable.
